I think I read somewhere that acid reflux can be a possible symptom of epigastric hernia, but I’m not sure. Does anybody know about this? And if it’s true, is there a way to differentiate between hernia and other causes of acid reflux?
Well, yes, acid reflux can be caused by a hiatal hernia (which is when part of the stomach slides up through the diaphragm into the chest cavity) but there are also many other causes of reflux. There are several ways to tell if this is the cause, but they all involve imaging of some type (the most common way to evaluate for this sort of thing is endoscopy, since it allows other things to be checked as well) but it’s not the first thing I would jump to do. If you have reflux that bothers you, see your doctor, get it treated, and don’t worry so much about the hernia, it may be the case, but it’s not the first thing to look for.
Can acid reflux be a sign of having a hernia?

Hiatal hernia is the type of hernia that is generally associated with acid reflux. You can have reflux without a hiatal hernia, and you can have a hiatal hernia with no symptoms, but the two often go together. The source below gives a lot of information about hiatal hernias and says that doctors can diagnose them using x-rays or endoscopy. Hope this helps.
