Dear Blue Eyes: I have acid reflux. The primary symptom for me when I am having an attack is a uncomfortable feeling in my upper stomach. Also my abdomen gets swollen and can be tender. When I am laying down sometimes acid rushes up into my throat…it feels like vomit coming up (sorry to be gross). You can take pills such as Prevacid and Nexium, which can now be purchased at the pharmacy without prescription. Also watch your diet and try to eat only bland foods…nothing greasy or fried, no spicy foods…and even lettuce and raw fruit is hard to digest. Also sleep elevated…using two pillows. In addition to all this you can take a tablespoon of Maalox or Mylantia (also purchased at the pharmacy). But take these liquid antacids several hours after taking the pills. Acid Reflux is annoying and can be dangerous if left untreated, so if you don’t get relief in a few weeks, make an appointment with your doctor.

i have acid reflux disease. it may also be called gastritis. What happens is that the acid from your stomach jumps upwards towards the esophagus. This causes inflammation of the stomach lining and if untreated it may also lead to esophagal cancer.
The possible symptoms are heartburns, nausea, frequent defecation and/or stomach pain and/or regurgitation. To control the symptoms a medication like protonix, prilosec or nexium is required. These medications are proton pump inhibitors which stop the stomach acid from jumping upwards. That leads to the inflammation of stomach lining heal itself. Stomach discomfort also is greatly reduced and there is improvement in bowel movements.
The major irritant of acid reflux is food. The symptoms occur after food is eaten, so to avoid acid reflux protonix, prilosec or nexium is taken. The biggest symptom that you have acid reflux is that the acid may jump towards your mouth and land on your teeth and tongue. Its a very nasty feeling
