Acid reflux sickness with medication?

Here’s the deal, i’ve got excess acid from my stomach, doctor thinks it’s either acid reflux or it’s some kind of ulcer (can’t remember the name of it)

I’ve been on omeprazole for 2 weeks now, and still get some days where i’m feeling nauseous with the acid, get that horrible acidy taste when I burp. Just wondering if it’s normal to have some days where acid still releases itself.

Oh before I forget the omperazole is a 10mg dose, once a day.

i would say to get a second opinion,i have acid reflux ,i was taking nexium once daily for a year and than i m on nexium twice daily .the medecine can’t be the only help.first and most important thing :STAY AWAY FROM STRESS as much as you can.and you have to stop eating some kind of food:any food with acid like orange/lemon/peppermint/…..and so on ,also any food with salsa (tomato sauce):try to not have a lot of it .and stop taking orange juice or any kind of acid juice like lemonada ,apple juice also.stay away of too much coffee/chocolate/alcohol.don’t lay down after eating/don’t wear tight stuff on your waist.during night ,try to raise the bed(the erea of your head ,not with extra pillow but the bed itself.and if you feel pain try to sleep on your left side.hope these can help.try to stick with all that as much as possible, feel better soon.

I have had acid reflux for 30 odd years,Then came Barretts Oesophogus and the cancer screening programme and lower abdominal pain. Then it went into my legs and now i am waiting to die because the doctors are useless with acid reflux.I was recently in hospital for 2 months. In the same room as me was a man who had cancer in the liver but they hadn’t found the original cancer.I have lost many friends who have died from stomach complaints that were diagnosed much too late. Two were only in their forties.Omeprazole was given to me first of all 40mg.It didn’t help. Then Lanzaprazole 30mg that didn’t help. Now Pantoprazole 80mg.Still i breathe acid fumes and haven’t eaten yet today. In the night the acid turns to thick mucus that goes into my lungs after about 2 hours and i wake choking for breath.Sleep is impossible after about 5 hours waking 3 times to clear the phlegm. From 3am i sit on the bed coughing into a bucket, shivering with the cold. The point of all this is KEEP GOING BACK TO THE DOCTOR.Don’t trust him on this because you may be in desperate trouble like me in the end.Gaviscon is something that is very good and can help at night.Without a good swig of that sleep would be impossible for me.Raise the head or your bed.Put books or blocks under the top end bed castors.Don’t drink too much water in the night and although they say don’t eat before bed i find that it is better the acid works on the food than on my throat for a couple of hours–Best of luck—HELICOBACTOR PYLORI is probably the ulcer that you talk about. It is a bug that THRIVES in acid and is nearly always present in an ulcer. It is known to be a cause of cancer,I had 2 courses of treatment for that and it’s still there

Omeprazole takes around 1 month to have its optimal effect, if you take 10mg once daily every day it should do the trick.

If you are still getting symptoms, go back to the doctor and check it out – they may prescribe a higher dose for you.

Other methods of preventing acid reflux include:
    -no large meals before bed
    -no spicy meals, caffeine, chocolate
    -reduce alcohol intake
    -maintain an optimal BMI

If you have helicobacter pylori, and your doctor should have tested you for it rather than just guessed, then you actually have too little stomach acid not too much. The main function of stomach acid is to protect you from bacteria, if you had sufficient acid helicobacter would not be able to establish itself in your stomach. Too little stomach acid or too much give the same symptoms. Return to your doctor and ask for a test to confirm the presence of helicobacter. If you have it then use mastic gum which is a rememdy thousands of years old and you can buy it off the internet – it usually takes a couple of weeks to get rid of the bacteria. At the same time use digestive enzymes to improve your digestion and improve your diet. A diet low in vitamin c will produce bad digestion as HCI (the acid) is inactive without vitamin C. And don’t eat any refined carbs or junk food of any kind. Also take probiotic supplements to replensh bowel bacteria disrupted by the antibiotics.

If you are taking it as prescribed and not missing any doses it is possible that the doc needs to up your dose to 20MG daily.
I would also be asking about a blood test for Helicobacter pylori and an endoscopy to rule out other reasons for your problem. Don’t let the doctor fob you if. It needs to be looked at.
Helicobacter pylori is not an ulcer it is a bacteria and can be treated easily with a course of antibiotics.

QUOTE "It is estimated that half the world’s population is infected by the stomach bacterium heli-cobacter pylori.
Infection by heli-cobacter pylori is the main cause of stomach ulcers and increases the risk of developing stomach cancer.
Not every infection leads to complaints and usually goes unnoticed for years.
A positive result can be treated by a specific antibiotic treatment, administered over a period of about a week, if a doctor confirms the diagnosis"
