What are symptoms of acid reflux??

I know I had just asked a question about my son having acid reflux, but what are most of the symptoms?? If your child had it, how did you know?? What signs were there?? And about what age did you realize it?? Thanks Again!!!
My son only screams while being burped or after. If it was reflux would it be other times also??
My son is 4 months old

in an adult your chest burns inside and also you can feel your throat burning, and you burp alot and sometimes it hurts when you do because the acid is coming up,, not a pleasant feeling, how old is your son?

If the esophagus has become damaged enough by acide backsplash, the opening to the stomach doesn’t open and close properly. In that case two things can happen (and they both happened to me):

    1. When a person is lying flat or sleeping, stomach contents can back up into the espophagus. If the fluids get far enough, the person can start to choke when the stuff gets into the windpipe. A sleeping person would awaken choking on harsh stomach fluids that burn at least as bad as a heartburn. If the amount of fluid is a lot, the person will "vomit". I put "vomit" in quotes because there’s no retching at all – the stomach contents just flow out because the opening to the esophagus doesn’t close correctly.

    2. If the opening to the stomach is continuously irritated and damaged this way, it can become inflamed and swell shut. Then the person will have a lot of trouble swallowing things. This was easily fixed in my case by a surgeon using some kind of dilating tool. I was put out for the operation, didn’t feel a thing. There were no incisions since he went in through the mouth.

I should add that prescription and over-the-counter acid blockers such as Prilosec and Prevacid have completely controlled the situation. I never get heartburn or "night choking" any more, but I have to make sure I take that med every day!

BTW Prevacid is pretty expensive but Prilosec is now sold over the counter and can be bought on sale for about $30.00 for a month’s supply. All things considered when it comes to medication these days, that’s not such a bad deal.

    Good luck,
    Big Al Mintaka

He could still have it even if he is not crying all the time. My son was diagnosed right away bu the never cried he just spit up after almost every meal. They did a test on him were he had to drink something and then did x rays. They did this because it was so soon after birth that they wanted to make sure his intestines were right. The signs are spiting up a lot, pain, sometimes the spit up has a sour smell or the burps have a sour smell do to the acid. Always being hungry , sometimes they have a wheezing sound almost like they have a cold. Its just where the acid has come up. This is some of the things my son had. He was real bad and he took medicines and was even given a half a teaspoon of mylanta when it seem real bad.

My daughter was 2months old when she was diagnosed. Her Dr. realized she wasn’t really gainning weight and she spit up a lot and would choke when drinking her bottle. She took an upper Gi xray and it proved positive so she was given a medicine to help her and her dr also recommended I sit her up during feeding and put cereal in her milk to help keep the food down. She is 4yrs old and no longer has it.
