Is spitting up always symptom? I had heard that acid reflux babies have projectile vomitting and spitting up.
My 3 mth old son is very fussy much of the day and will spit up, but no more than your average baby does. I’ve always just been assuming its colic, but I’ve tried all the popular colic remedies and nothing seems to help. So I’ve just been wondering if he could be having some reflux.
He was also born 6 weeks early…
Spitting up is not always reflux, and reflux does not always produce (visible) spit up. Projectile vomiting is not reflux. A baby born premature is more prone to have episodes of reflux. Symptoms vary but can include screaming when laying down, spitting up, irritability when eating, refusing to eat (usually in older children), arching of the back with crying, frequent hiccups, and "wet" burps.
My boys were also six weeks early and suffer from reflux. They each started out taking 3 different medications and sleeping on an incline. At 7 months of age we are finally down to just Prevacid and that seems to have helped the most. Call your doctor and see what he/she thinks- the sooner you get your baby in, the more comfortable you can both be.
Good luck
Crying, spitting up, trouble sleeping, gasping for breath occasionally, coughing. Those are a few my son’s dr. told me.

Well we do not know for sure. But yes spitting up is a sign of acid reflux. But babies at a young age tend to throw up. It’s normal. My friends baby had it and when she would throw up it was more of a gooey substance then regular throw up. Call the doc and ask. Doesn’t hurt to be safe and ask.

The most common symptom would be spitting up which is a normal occurence until 18 months. If the child continues to spit up at that point and has trouble gaining weight, spits blood or respiratory complications, then it could be something more serious (GERD).
At 3 months I would assume that those are normal occurences for the child. If you continue to be concerned then take the child in for a check-up.

Babies spit up, end of story. You said it’s no more than the average baby, right? The first three months are really just a fourth trimester, it’s all about keeping baby cozy and mimicking the womb environment – more so because your son was 6 weeks early. Try wearing him around in a sling, probably will help with the fussiness and will also help keep the food down by keeping him upright after meals.

My baby girl has acid reflux. She would be vomiting and it would come out fast and going across the room like. She would be arching her back during feedings.

I recommend talking to your doctor about this as it’s very common for premature babies to have reflux. It’s not a myth and if you are concerned enough about it to ask us here, you are concerned enough to ask your doctor.
My son had silent reflux. He spit up TONS, more then you can imagine, but was gaining weight. The pediatrician thought it was fine, even though he was drinking a 6 oz bottle at 8 weeks every 2 hours and wanting to eat soon after his last feed. Babies with silent reflux eat to sooth that pain, they usually don’t have weight loss so it’s often over looked. He always had a runny nose and didn’t sleep well. He was finally diagnosed and given Zantac and Prevacid. What wonderful drugs!
My daughter had the normal kind of reflux where she arched her back and cried and cried. A 20 minute nursing would turn into an hour because she was hurting so much. She took Zantac and did great.
Colic usually happens in the afternoon/evening the same time every single night. There is nothing you can do to sooth them.
Be sure to keep him propped up after each feed for 15-20 minutes. Try inclining the head of his crib(putting a small blanket underneath the mattress) will help.
Please talk to your doctor about this and perhaps discuss some different formulas you can try if he thinks it’s warranted.
Good luck and congrats on a baby!
