He Has These Outburst Of Crying That Will Last For Hours And That Started About A Month Ago…While Eating He Arches His Back And Screams In Pain….I KNow My Child…And I KNow This Is Not Normal. They Now Have Him Taking 1 Ml Of Zantac 3 Times A Day And Its Only Getting Worse! Im Wondering If Anyone Has Had To Deal With This Or Has Suggestions….Also He Wakes Up Everything Hours And Cries During The Night…And The Dr.s Still Try To Tell Me Nothing Is Wrong With Him…..HELP!
Oh and I Am Taking Him To A Pediatric Center…So The Dr. Specializes In Babies!
My son Christian started these puking episodes actually later at about 15 months old. He would eat, but then start this continuous deep cough and eventually throw up everything he ate. He wasn’t gaining weight and when he would visit the doctor they would act the same way towards me. Finally, after 2 months of this, and I knew he was miserable, my boyfriend and I took him to Children’s Hospital. They did a Pertussis (whooping cough) test, and it was negative, and came back and told me he had a problem with acid reflux. He was put on Zantac(ranitidine) for a 2 week interval taking it twice daily. That one time treatment cured his acid reflux. They said it was probably just a temporary acid problem and he hasn’t puked since. You might need to take your son to the gastrointerologist and see if maybe something else is going on! They specialize in treating illnesses with the stomach and esophagus. It is serious I know how you feel and that is the best thing you can do for him!
I Have A 6 Month Old Who I Suspect Has Severe Acid Reflux. He Has Been On Zantac Since He Was 2 Months Old.?

What kind of doctor are you going to? If he is a general practitioner, you need to take your baby to a specialist, a gastroenterologist who specializes in problems such as this. If the specialist doesn’t practice with children, he may be able to refer you to a gastroenterologist who does.

the hell with all the meds- get a second or even a third opinion. if that doesn’t get results try a chiropractor. when my daughter was 2 months old she had colic she cried all the time. we took her to a chiropractor who studied kinesology( i think that is right-alot of years ago) but anyway he said she was having problems with her digestive system. he gave us a natural med. to put in her formula. less than a week and she was fine no more problem– good luck- and your not crazy your just a mom

my daughter was diagnosed with infant reflux at a week old, her reflux was so severe that she stopped breathing several times because the contents of her stomach when she spat up entered her lungs, she also displayed the signs that you are talking about, i took her to the childrens hospital and they put a small camera down her throat so they could see the reflux as it happened, she was also given the acid test were they put a device down her throat which was attached to a monitor so they could see the ammount of acid that her stomach produced. reflux is where the opening at the top of the stomach doesnt close after milk/food has entered it and so the contents are unable to stay in the stomach and the acid in the stomach which breaks down the food also escapes and that is what causes the burning. my daughter was prescribed infant Zantac infant Gaviscone and was given a powder which i added to her bottles to make her milk thicker so it was a bit heavier in her stomach, i was also adviced to put a pillow under her mattress in her cot as babies with this condition dont like to lie flat, when you wind your baby hold him/her over your shoulder and try to keep him/her as upright after a feed as possible, try not to bounce or have your make a lot of movement right after a feed as this icreases the movement of stomach and the baby is more likely to spit up .
i really hope this helps and just keep on at your GP until they look into it for you.

My niece was having this problem, except it was usually almost immediately after eating and it was all at once. They switched her formula at first and then she started doing it again. Then she was diagnosed with acid reflux and they put her on Prevacid. My sis says that it has helped quite a bit.

I am sorry. I bet you are tired. As long as he isnt losing weight he is good. You say he is miserable, then you say he is usually a happy baby so I am confused. Ours spit up until 1 yr old. Maybe he is teething? and that is why he awakes at night? I worry about all that zantac. The arching back is their way of saying enough! I dont want to eat now. Is this your first child?

i dont know if this will help you but i was in the same situation, my dughter cried during feedings, arching her back , spit up alot, and was always restless. She had crying fits that lasted hours aswell. The dr told me it was reflux, she was put on Zantac 3 times a day. After 3 weeks she was no different if not worse so i took her back, and the Dr prescribed a stronger medicine. I wasnt happy because i didnt think it was reflux and i took her to another Dr. He then told me to try soy milk as if they have an intolerance or alllergy its kinda like heartburn when they drink and after. And they can get severe belly aches. She has been on soy for 1 month now and it took a week for it to get better but now she is a changed baby. No crying fits, drinks her bottle without a whimper. I hope this helps you. I understand how it feels when the dr doesnt really listen.

I’m a mom of a 6 1/2 month GERD baby who’s been on pepcid not zantac, my ped suggested Enfimil AR which helps the formula stay in the belly because of the rice proteins. She does still spit us some but no pain. also as you introduce cereal it helps keep food down and not coming back up and getting stuck in the throat burning. Good luck!! I feel for you!
