The burning is not only in my stomache, causing muscle cramps making my ribs feel like they hurt, but its up to my chest, near the breastbone. Ive taken mallox, and pepcid, no help there. I started taking 15mg of prevacid 2 days ago, no help just yet. Its causing my heart to palpultate, more than it has before, dizzy, really tired, and my heart feels like its burning out of my chest. Any advice? Thanks friends.
I am not a doctor, so either way you will want to talk to them, but this is what I have to say as a long time sufferer of Acid Reflux (G.E.R.D.)!
Three part answer: information, what not to do, and what to do!
INFORMATION!!!!!!
I have a very severe case of Acid Reflux (G.E.R.D.). I have had to go to the hospital for some of the heartburn that I have had because the pain can become overwhelming or your breathing can be effected. It can be caused by Smoking, Drinking Beverages with caffeine (My case with hereditary), Drinking Beverages with Alcohol, Stress, Anxiety or can be Hereditary
The good thing about G.E.R.D. is that it can be a temporary thing and can be cured. It is never a permit thing even if you end up with it for the rest of your life it has the ability to be cured.
G.E.R.D. is caused by too much acid being created in your stomach. This can lead to or cause ulcers, esophagus damage, heartburn and/or damage in the mouth. . Other symptoms that can be found in a few cases are dizziness, tingling in limbs, numbness of Limbs, Chest/Back pain focused on the left side (in most cases), and shortness/difficulty breathing.
WHAT NOT TO DO!!!!!!!!
In most cases, stress is a factor to the reflux if you watch what you eat and reduce some of the stress it will help. If you watch what you eat for about a week you should find relief, if you do not then that is when you definitely what to listen to the doctor. Things to watch for are as follows:
Fatty Foods
Citrus Foods
Oranges (Juice and fruit)
Lemon (Juice and fruit)
Foods That Contain Grease
Fried Foods
Potatoes (Starch)
Buffalo wings
Chocolate (including any Coco)
Caffeine
Smoking
Alcohol
Doughnuts
Brownies
Cake
Tomato Based Products
Lactose
Sour Cream
Cottage Cheese
High amounts of Carbohydrates
Roughage (Berries and Nuts)
Onions
WHAT TO DO!!!!
The two foods that I recommend is Black strap Molasses and Raw honey. The apple is better for night time reflux while these will work for just about all of it. What you will do is take about a tsp. of whatever one you chose. Molasses being the better because of strength and nutrition, but must be use to the taste. What the substance will do is stick to the sides of the esophagus and do two things, one is heal and the other is protect.
On the healing end, both substances have a healing property in them, and as they sit on the walls of the esophagus they will heal it. This is also helpful if you have a sore throat in the morning from refluxing.
On the protection end, both substances are high in sugar and when acid that is refluxed comes up to that the sugar will neutralize it and it will not longer be a problem at that point.
I would also look to putting Cinnamon and Ginger in you diet, they have been know to help with digestion and will help you reduce the amount of acid needed to brake down food, therefore causing you to reflux less.
You need to go to the doc and get the scope down your throat. Till your appointment you can try Prilosec

You need a prescription for something like Prevacid. The over-the-counter medicines are way to weak to deal with severe acid reflux.

My mom has the same thing. It is related to anxiety. She takes prevacid and it helps right away. I think if the meds aren’t helping you I would contact my doctor and try something else.
Good luck

You need to see a Gastroenterologist. Please call someone tomorrow for an appointment. I get acid reflux (at times). I have learned to take 2 Zantac, before bed, if I have anything made with tomato sauce (that’s my trigger!). You probably would benefit from watching what you eat, and figuring out what your triggers may be. I wish you well. It’s a lousy thing to deal with.

I had acid reflux and cramping associated with gallstones. Other signs to watch out for are significant gas, diarrhoea, and the pain used to occur between 1am and 3am after I’d eaten a fatty dinner(or garlic, go figure?). Pain was characterised by a burning just under the right ribs punctuated by sharp stabbing pain. If you have any of these other symptoms, it might be gallstones. In which case, see a doctor.

I have this same thing and there was a time when I couldnt afford the meds my doctor prescribed me. I spoke to my dr about it and he told me to take 2 of the prevacid a day. It did help after a week or so. It is not as effective as the prescription meds though. You def need to take care of this cause it will only get worse and cause more serious problems to your esophagus

Go to the doctor. Long term acid reflux can cause cancer of the esophagus. You are suffering with these symptoms unnecessarily.

Sorry to hear that.
However, learn to eat properly. Stay away from ALL ‘Fast Foods’ and/or frozen or canned foods.
Eat more vegetables and less meat.
This will make a BIG difference – IMHO.

this sounds so much more dangerous than acid reflux. When you are getting heart palpitations and dizziness, you’ve got to speak with a health professional!
But, if this is just acid reflux, then may I suggest trying the Hallelujah diet for a spell? It is basically a diet of mostly raw, whole fruits and vegetables. It is not for everyone, and might be sort of hard to keep strictly, but there is nothing that will repair your damaged esophagus tissue faster than this diet, from what I have learned.

You know what, I had the same problem a couple weeks ago. It’s been like that for almost 2 years now for me. I have really bad heartburn but it serioulsy felt like a heart attack. My heart was having weird palpitations and I felt so uncomfortable. My left arm was weak and tired, I thought I had heart disease or a heart attack or something. So I went to the doc and he said I have really bad heartburn. He subscribed me Prilosec, and within maybe 4 days, I don’t have it anymore. Try prilosec, it worked for me. But I think you should see your doc because I didn’t get dizzy, so that may be an indicator of something else. Good luck!

My husband is going through the same thing you are….as we speak. His maybe isn’t quite that bad with the heart feelings. However, he has been through every medication in the book for acid reflux (Zantac, Prevacid, Nexium, Prilosec, and Aciphex) He has tried every single one of these and none of them has worked. Currently he is on Aciphex and if this one doesn’t work as well, they are going to have to put a scope down his throat again. The first time he was scoped, they found several ulcers and a hiatal hernia. If he can’t get past this with the Aciphex (the last medication that is available to him) he will have to have surgery to fix the problem.
You really should go see your health care provider and tell them all of your sympotms. Get this taken care of as soon as possible, because as the acid continues it wears away at your esophagus, and CAN cause esophageal cancer.
I also have acid reflux, fortunately Prilosec OTC is working for me. GOOD LUCK!!

Hello
I also suffer from acid reflux and have the same symptoms.
Do you see a gastroenterologist? If not you should get a reffereal.
I think an endoscopy is a good idea. This will help diagnose if it is more then reflux.
Like mentioned above, it could be gall bladder problems too, Im being treated for them.
Go back to your doctor, and maybe get a refferal.
It could be something as simple as changing your medicine.
Good luck!
